Pallet Rack Upright Frames

Pallet Racking

Teardrop pallet rack upright frames from 4′ to 40′ tall and 24″ to 48″ deep, with engineered 3″ × 3″ columns rated up to 32,870 lb per frame, stocked in Longwood, FL and Houston, TX and shipped nationwide.

Upright frames are the vertical end frames of a pallet rack system: two columns joined by horizontal and diagonal braces, standing on anchored base plates. Frame height sets how many beam levels you can build, frame depth should match your pallet depth, and column gauge and the height of your first beam level determine how much the frame can carry.

Our engineered frames use 3″ × 3″ teardrop columns in four steel gauges, from 16 GA for everyday storage to 12 GA for heavy loads, independently tested by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab to the ANSI MH16.1-2023 rack standard. Published capacities let us match the frame to your load instead of guessing.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call us at (386) 261-8959.

How much weight can a pallet rack upright frame hold?

It depends on column gauge and the height of the first beam level. Our 3″ × 3″ engineered frames are rated, with the first beam at 48″, at 14,990 lb (16 GA), 20,510 lb (14 GA), 25,940 lb (13 GA) and 31,760 lb (12 GA) per frame, static load, per ANSI MH16.1-2023.

Why does upright capacity go down when the first beam is higher?

The column below the first beam is the longest unsupported span, and longer spans buckle at lower loads. For example, a 14 GA frame is rated 21,100 lb with the first beam at 36″ but 13,660 lb at 120″. Keeping the first beam low, or adding a lower level, raises frame capacity.

What does height to first beam mean?

It’s the distance from the floor to the first beam level. Frame capacity charts are published by this dimension because it controls how much load the columns can safely carry.

What depth upright do I need for a standard pallet?

For a standard 40″ × 48″ GMA pallet loaded with the 48″ side front-to-back, use a 42″-deep upright. The pallet overhangs the beams about 3″ front and back, which is the industry-standard setup.

Do you offer custom pallet rack sizes?

Yes. Custom upright heights and depths and custom beam lengths are available. Tell us the dimensions you need and we’ll quote them and confirm the rated capacity for your configuration.

What is the difference between 16, 14, 13 and 12 gauge uprights?

Gauge is steel thickness. Lower numbers are thicker and stronger: our 3″ × 3″ columns range from 0.057″ (16 GA) to 0.102″ (12 GA), roughly doubling frame capacity from 14,990 lb to 31,760 lb with the first beam at 48″.

Is your pallet racking made from certified steel?

Yes. Frame steel is hot-rolled coil to IS 2062, supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates and certified to a minimum yield 350 MPa (51 ksi) and minimum tensile 410 MPa (59 ksi), above the 50 ksi (345 MPa) design basis behind our published capacities.

Can I get mill test certificates for the steel?

Yes. The steel is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates from BIS-licensed mills, documenting chemistry and lab-tested yield, tensile strength and elongation for each lot. Ask for copies with your quote. Inspectors and engineers often request them.
